Not just Kerry football fans were distraught when the news that Colm Cooper had ruptured his ACL broke on Monday. He was just off what was arguably his best Championship season ever, starring at centre-forward for Kerry. He will be a huge loss to this season's Championship as a spectacle.
The Irish Times has further news on his injury today and worryingly it includes the words "risk of being career-ending". Along with the damaged ACL, the Gooch also has a fractured knee which means surgery will have to be done in stages, first on the fracture and then, once that has healed, on the ACL.
This will increase the length of his period of rehabilitation and means it could be sometime in 2015 before we see him in action again.
Let's hope that Cooper has Adrian Peterson-esque powers of recovery.
