Another weekend is here, and with it, another opportunity to win (but more likely) lose money to the damned bookies. It's not a massive weekend of GAA but there are a few intriguing hurling fixtures in the Leinster round robin. You'll remember that we were a terrible Offaly performace away from a handy win last weekend so we're reputable at this gambling thing, sorta.
The bets:
- Kerry to win by 1-3 vs Westmeath
- Offaly -4 vs Carlow (evens)
- Under 1.5 goals in the League final replay
The thinking:
- Kerry v Westmeath today in Tralee is the most intriguing match of the weekend. Tonnes at stake for both teams. Just how good are Westmeath? Kerry's form has been consistent throughout the league though their big results have all come away from home. The Offaly-Westmeath result completely changes the complexion of the round robin. Kerry's need is greater with Offaly to come.
- The decline of Offaly hurling is back on the sports media agenda following the Westmeath result, but it'll all be worth it if Offaly win out and finish second in the round robin and play Laois in the Championship. Carlow will bear the brunt of those column inches tomorrow.
- Unfortunately, Ladbrokes don't have odds for 'likelihood of shite entertainment'. We were wise to the borefest in the League final and backed under 2.5 goals. We're doubling down on that bet this week. I expect an even more defensive and turgid sequel.
Three quid gets you nearly 75. Get on it.
