The word genius is overused to the extent of meaninglessness in our culture, but I think most of us will accept that the word is applicable to Peter Canavan's footballing skills. That fact seems more firmly enmeshed in the minds of Tyrone people who saw Canavan play with Errigal Ciarán all these years, on top in the red and white. The rest of the country was robbed of seeing so much of Canavan's routine genius, and so we send a big head nod in the direction of youtube user John Ec who's kindly edited a 5 minute reel of Canavan's best club scores down through the years largely from VHS tape. It really captures the incredible range of Canavan's skills: from the Messi-esque to points that Maurice Fitz would like to call his own to the downright dogged (as you'll see at the end of the video).
Peter Canavan, we salute you.
