The new gaelic football rules were trialled on Friday night at Croke Park.

The games were open and high-scoring while lacking in intensity. For supporters, it was certainly an interesting spectacle. After the games, players spoke of how taxing the games were to play in.

Some of the rules like having three men in one end had an instant impact. Others like the four point goal or the 2 point arc seemed less necessary. If these rules are brought in, the game will surely be - to echo Munster manager John Cleary - a forwards game. How any of this will translate to the club game is anyone's guess

Niall Morgan had some interesting comments about the new rules speaking on Tg4 - goalkeeper fitness will become a huge factor if these rules are brought through Congress.

"We are going to have to get our high-speed metres up.

"We'll be with the strength and conditioning coaches this year instead of the goalkeeping coaches I would say.

"But look, the game did have to change - there is no doubt about it."
