Stephen Hunt has been speaking again about GAA players and the problems posed by the organisation's amateur status.
Speaking in a new RTÉ documentary 'Páirc Life', Hunt shows huge praise for current footballers and hurlers but reiterated a point he made earlier this year, in highlighting the limits of what they can achieve:
They are elite in what they do. In how they train they're elite...
They train just as much as us but they have to work. So they can never be as a good or as fast, or as sharp as they could be.
Hunt argues that if the game went professional it would 'get quicker, it would get faster and stronger.' However, of course, the Irish winger is cognizant of the how a turn to professionalism would come at a cost; perhaps negatively affecting the ethos of the GAA.
Páirc Life is presented by Jacqui Hurley and takes a look at the current landscape of Gaelic Games and where we go from here. It airs Tuesday night at 9pm on RTE2.
