Sky have announced that they will be launching a new channel in the summer. The channel, to be called Sky Sports Mix, will be free to existing basic Sky customers.
What Is Sky Sports Mix?
It means that people no longer need to pay for specific sports packages to be able to watch GAA, Premier League, La Liga, European golf, US golf, and many others.
Sky will be showing World Cup 2018 qualifiers, increased women's golf and rugby coverage, select Premier League games alongside their kids shows like Gamechangers. Sky also announced that they will be providing insightful documentaries with these shows to amaze and inspire.
Sky's managing director Barney Francis further explains:
With Sky Sports Mix, we are giving millions more people access to great moments from some of the world’s biggest sporting events at no extra cost. It is a fantastic way for all Sky customers to be able to enjoy some of the great content that has made Sky Sports the first choice for sport.
It will be easier for Irish people to be able to watch sport on Sky now.
Instead of subscribing to Sky and their sports channels, any basic subscription to Sky should now show some sport including World Cup qualifiers and GAA championship games. It's not going to be completely free, but it's something.
Sky have confirmed that some championship games will be shown on the new channel, but only subscribing to the Sky Sports package will ensure access to the 20 games that Sky are offering.
The games that to be shown on Sky Sports Mix will be confirmed closer to the channel launch.
A welcome move from Sky making watching sport easier.
