The remaining eight teams will go into a draw on Thursday morning for the quarter-final playoffs, where they'll battle it out for the chance to claim one of four remaining quarter-final spots.

Here's all Wedensday's results and what it means for each of the universities.

Sigerson Round 2A

Ulster University 1-10 -  1-09 University Limerick

Ulster Uni the reigning champions pipped the Limerick outfit by a single point in an enthralling encounter under the lights at Abbotstown on Wednesday evening. The result means that Ulster march straight onto the quarter-finals, while University Limerick will now have to get ready for a preliminary quarter-final playoff next week.

TUS Midlands 0-17 - 1-12 MTU Cork

MTU Cork put up a gallant fight on their home patch, but it was TUS Midlands accuracy between the uprights which eventually saw them cement their place in the quarter-finals. All is not over for MTU Cork however, they'll have the ripe opportunity to qualify for the last eight in next week's preliminary quarter-finals.

TU Dublin 3-14 - 3-11 St. Mary's

TUD and St. Mary's provided an absolute goal-fest in North Dublin. By the time the sides broke for halftime TUD had built a healthy lead off their 3 goals, with the five points that complimented them making it a five-point gap to St. Mary's who despite scoring 2 goals couldn't keep up. While Mary's fought gallantly to the whistle, it was TUD who pipped them by just three points in the end, booking their spot in the quarter-finals. On the other hand, St. Mary's are now into the preliminary quarter-finals.

UCD 1-11 - DCU 1-10

A northside v southside Dublin derby, DCU were by far the better side in the opening half, making much more of their chances and heading down the tunnel with a 0-06 to 0-03 lead. While they met UCD's early second-half goal with a three-pointer of their own just sixty seconds later, UCD eventually found their form, creeping back into the game before taking the lead as the clock struck closer to sixty. Both teams had chances to nail a win at the death, but Ultimately UCD just had the answers to what DCU threw at them.

UCD are now through to the quarter-finals, while DCU will battle it out for a last-eight place in a playoff next week.

Sigerson Round 2B

It was winner-takes-all in round 2B of the Sigerson Cup on Wednesday evening, with the winners taking a spot in the quarter-final playoffs and the losers being eliminated from the competition.

ATU Sligo 1-14 - 1-13 ATU Galway

It was a Connacht Derby on the Wild Atlantic Way on Wednesday evening as the two ATUs clashed. It was heartbreak for Galway who had their tournament ended by the slimmest of margins. In a game that was nip and tuck throughout Sligo just seemed to have the marginal advantage throughout - an advantage that paid off and kept their season alive when the clock struck sixty.

University of Galway 4-15 - 0-04 Queens University Belfast

It was a statement win from the University of Galway in the Sigerson Cup on Wednesday who laid their stall out ahead of next week's playoffs. Having just lost to TUD in the opening round, Galway needed a big performance to keep their season alive and that's what they delivered. Unfortunately for Queens who managed just four points in the sixty-minute affair, Wednesday marks the end of their journey.

Maynooth 5-20 - 0-05 ATU Donegal

An emphatic win by Maynooth. The Kildare side had a tough start to their campaign, forcing extra-time against TUS Midlands before finding themselves just two points short at the death. However, they came back roaring on Wednesday, racking up thirty-five points and knocking ATU Donegal out of the competition with a staggering thirty-point win. The result also means ATU Donegal will now be relegated from the top-flight of third-level action.

MTU Kerry also defeated UCC on Tuesday evening in Round 2b, with MTU Kerry's name now in the hat for the playoffs and UCC's campaign over.
