TG4's commitment to sport is utterly remarkable, bringing viewers an unrivalled amount of live Gaelic games, without any doomsaying pundits decrying the quality of the action on show. This writer has previously been given some internet space with which to wax lyrical on TG4's GAA coverage, which can be found at this precise corner of the web.
Unfortunately, the station are now cutting back on their GAA coverage, and it was announced yesterday that highlights programme Seo Spóirt is being cancelled after an eleven-year run. It will run to encompass the Allianz Leagues, after which it will take its leave of the Friday night schedules.
The show's All-Ireland winning host Dara O'Cinneide told Malachy Clerkin of the Irish Times that he was "disappointed".
I get it and I understand the rationale behind it from his point of view. I disagree with it, but there you go. This is the last season of it, it will be going until the end of the league and that will be that.
They’ve appointed a new CÉO and his whole vision doesn’t include studio programmes. He feels that the day of sitting on the couch analysing games is gone. I said I wouldn’t agree but go ahead. He’s getting rid of it and a few other studio-based programmes, keeping just news and current affairs.
We're not sure whether those days are indeed behind us, and many viewers agreed, mourning the loss of the show on line.
Silly move by TG4 getting rid of Seo Spoirt and I can't even speak the lingo

So sad to hear @SeoSpoirtTG4 is being axed. Always a sign the winter is over when @ediennico @gemnichionnaith are on the telly on Fridays

Spot on Daragh, I loved watching it and it will be very much missed. No doubt @ediennico & @gemnichionnaith will find new homes after #GAA https://t.co/PGePzHtzpP

A pity to see @SeoSpoirtTG4 being axed. Was a great show. #seospoirt #tg4

Sad to hear that #seospoirt is ending. Far superior to the rubbish GAA panels on RTÉ.

Really sad to see Seó Spóirt coming to an end after 11 years on air. One of highlights of TG4 schedule. You'll be missed Dara, Gemma & team pic.twitter.com/T2DkT7jPO5

Best of luck to everyone leaving the show, our weeks will be poorer for its absence.
