Well, we've got a new nickname for Dublin's Alan Brogan. Call him 'The Senator'. The Irish Examiner - who seem to get all of the good GAA stories - report today that Alan - who's star has been eclipsed in the last 18 months by his little bro - was nearly on Enda Kenny's list for prospective Seanad candidates.
"There was speculation at the time that I might make myself available for the Taoiseach’s choice. I contemplated it but I decided against doing it. In the end, I wasn’t approached by the Taoiseach," he told John Fogarty.
The Brogan's are tight with Jimmy Deenihan, current Minister for Sport, which partly explains it. Not sure why Brogan passed up the chance to live the good life, debating Greek ethics with David Norris and Mary Louise O'Donnell. Think of the pension, Alan, the pension!
Interesting to note that the Brogan's seem to wear blue shirts off the pitch as well.
