Rumours of Seanie Johnston's possible return to Cavan Gaels have been circulating in Cavan for a couple of weeks, and now it seems that the artist formerly know as Jelly will indeed be making his return before the Cavan Senior Football Championship
Earlier this week there were murmurings from the Irish Independent that he may return at some stage or another but going by this week's edition of Cavan's local newspaper The Anglo Celt, Johnston's transfer home looks imminent.
Sports editor Paul Fitzpatrick writes, 'Sources close to the club have revealed that the former Cavan senior captain, who is eligible to play for the Gaels in the championship having missed St Kevin's Kildare opener due to injury in May, is unlikely to remain with the Kildare club and that he will be welcomed back at Terry Coyle Park [Cavan Gaels' home ground].'
The Cavan county board have found themselves with positive headache (if there's such a thing), thanks to Cavan's continued involvement in the All Ireland Championship. Their run has meant that the start of the club championship in Cavan has been pushed back until August, and it should accommodate a return for Johnston before the Gaels line out against Intermediate champions Lacken in their first round match.
Will he be accepted back by teammates with open arms? He certainly be a big boost for Gaels' championship hopes.
