He's famous in Balls Towers for his short stint as a GAA umpire but Sean O'Brien looks like he could be joining Anthony Rainbow's backroom staff with the Carlow football team.
O'Brien is no stranger to a Carlow training session, going back to the days of Luke Dempsey, but this year it seems he will have an even bigger role. What exactly that role will be yet has still to be ironed out.
Rainbow has said 'We have yet to sit down to see exactly what his role is, but his presence along in the dressing-room was uplifting to the players and it is great to have a person of his calibre involved with Carlow GAA.'
It seems O'Brien's shoulder injury has been a blessing in disguise for the footballers. 'On the Monday he gave us a call and said ''I'm out for a couple of months and I'd love to get involved in the team'' in any way he can,' revealed Rainbow.
Of course the Kildareman is hoping the high standards set by the Irish international will have a big impact on his squad, 'He is an inspirational figure in Carlow and if the players can get something out of it, it is all the better.'
