Sean Cavanagh has spoken publicly for the first time since suffering he suffered nasty facial injuries in a club game last weekend.
The incident occurred during a Tyrone Senior Football Championship match, when Cavanagh's May took on Edendork. The three time All-Ireland winner took a blow to the face from an opposition player, which was deemed accidental by the referee.
It was an ill-tempered affair, with 20 yellow and six red cards, as well as a black, handed out between the two teams.
Speaking to the BBC, Cavanagh has revealed that he is still suffering heavily from concussion.
My nose is sore. I still have heavy concussion but recovering.
You are going to pick up knocks in sport. Saturday was no different. Thankfully the wounds are healing. Onwards and upwards.
A defeat in that game ended Moy's interest in this year's championship, meaning the player can now focus fully on his recovery without worrying about making a swift return to the field of play.
Cavanagh retired from inter-county duty last year, and set to turn 36 next February, many had feared this injury would see him step away from the game altogether. He won an Intermediate Club All-Ireland title in March, and Moy will surely be hoping he sticks around so they can have another crack at senior level in 2019.
Thankfully, the player said he fully intends to line out for his club again next year.
I'd hope to (play again). I love the game. I love the sport. It's something I've been doing a long time. I certainly don't want to walk away from it at this point.
Hopefully as 2019 approaches, the body will be fit and well and I'll be able to get back playing and doing what I love.
