Tyrone legend Sean Cavanagh has had his say on Armagh's incredible achievement last weekend as they beat Galway to be crowned All-Ireland champions.

The three-time All-Ireland winner was of course very complimentary towards the Orchard county, and praised Kieran McGeeney for building such an incredible squad capable of achieving this feat.

However, Cavanagh did highlight that Galway were unlucky in some circumstances, not least the injury to Robert Finnerty in the opening 10 minutes the game.

"But it was nervy, disjointed kind of a half. Galway losing Rob Finnerty was a massive blow," Cavanagh said in his column.

"Opponents tend to put their best backs on Damien Comer and Shane Walsh, and that can play into Finnerty's hands.

"He was excellent in the semi-final and to lose him so early really hurt Galway."

One big call made by the Galway management that the Tyrone hero couldn't understand, was their decision to play Sean Kelly when they did.

Kelly was captain of the team, but has been battling with injuries all season, and didn't feature at all against Donegal in the semi-finals.

Despite being named to start on the match programme, it was soon announced during the warm-up that he would be on the bench.

Early in the second half, with the game on a knife-edge, Padraic Joyce made the call to spring Kelly into action, but it was clear from early on that he wasn't 100% fit.

"I don't understand the Sean Kelly situation. I watched him in the warm-up and he was nowhere near fit.

"I know he is the captain but he wasn't fit enough to be brought on. He was way off it when he was introduced.

All hell broke loose in the last 10 minutes of the game, as there were big scores kicked, the post was hit by both teams, turnovers were forced, and mistakes from Armagh and Galway made it seem like anyone could win or lose it.

In the end though it was the Ulster side who stuck it out, winning by a single point in the end to ensure that the Sam Maguire came home with them.
