Sad News As Young GAA Star Aaron Devlin Has Passed Away

Derry  footballer Aaron Devlin has sadly passed away after losing his battle with meningitis.

Tributes have poured in for in the 23-year-old who fell ill last Friday, he came off the pitch in a challenge match for his club Ballinderry last Wednesday citing low energy levels.

The Ulster University Jordanstown post-graduate was brought to hospital on Friday evening and was immediately put on life-support. Jordanstown GAA released this statement.

Devlin played inter-county-football for Derry at minor, u21 and senior level, Derry GAA also released a statement following the untimely death.

The Derry GAA community is greatly saddened to learn of the untimely death of Aaron Devlin

It is difficult to comprehend the devastation that the Devlin family and the wider community of Ballinderry must be feeling at this time.

This tragedy will be sorely felt throughout the Derry GAA family, and on behalf of all our players, officials and members, at home and abroad, we wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Aaron’s mother Carmel, father Eugene, sister Anna, and brothers Ronan and Coilin.

Further tributes have poured in for Devlin, including from numerous GAA stars as well as Republic of Ireland international James McClean.
