Mayo take on Dublin this evening in the 2020 All-Ireland football final. It's been a bonkers year and we're heading right back into lockdown after Christmas. Sport, and especially the GAA, has been great balm during the dark months of the year.
At GAA HQ today, Mayo will again stare down 99 years of curses and wretched history and attempt to lift Sam Maguire. The odds are against them, but this morning, from Swinford to Ballintubber to wherever Mayo people gather on this green and red planet, that little flame of hope has been lit. This, after all, might be the day.
To whet our appetites for the match, RTÉ have produced this 'Impossible Dream' montage which masterfully sums up seven years of woe, while capturing the faces of the dreamers who've kept the quest alive. It's set amid the context of lockdown and it will get the emotions going.
