After some striking designs were released for Dublin, Cork, and Mayo in recent weeks, Roscommon have become the latest team to reveal the O'Neills jersey they will wear in 2025.

It is a bold break from recent tradition for the Rossies.

The O'Neills effort does not veer away from the yellow-and-blue colour scheme historically worn by the county. However, rather than the yellow block with blue supporting colours we have become accustomed to, they have instead opted for a hooped design.

It's a striking design and has garnered plenty of reaction on social media.

One repeated refrain has drawn an unexpected connection between Roscommon GAA and the great Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Fans notice unexpected likeness in new Roscommon GAA jersey

Soon after Roscommon and O'Neills released the first pictures of the Rossies' 2025 jersey, comparisons began to come in between the kit and the traditional yellow-and-blue hoops of Italian club Parma.

Several fans took to social media to share their sentiments, saying that the design harked back to one of the most iconic colour schemes in Italian football.

It is indeed highly reminiscent of the Parma colour scheme, with the 1998-99 season perhaps the campaign that solidified the team as one of the great 'cult hero' teams.

Decked out in the striking yellow and blue hoops, and with a young Gianluigi Buffon between the sticks, the side enjoyed their greatest ever season. Not only would they win the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa, but they would defeat Marseille in the UEFA Cup final in Moscow to claim a rare European honour.

The squad that season was truly sensational, with not only Buffon but Dino Baggio, Hernan Crespo, Juan Sebastian Veron, Fabio Cannavaro, and Lilian Thuram on the books, among others.

If Roscommon can even come close to living up to the feats achieved by Parma in 1999 during the 2025 championship season, it will be an all-timer season for the Rossies. And they would be doing it in an all-timer kit!
