AIB yesterday released Episode 1 of Behind The Gates, their look behind the scenes at Roscommon's 2017 Championship. The first episode is available here.
Tonight, episode 2 has landed, with focus on the scrap for a starting place against Galway in the Connacht final. As Liam McHale tells us, there were more or less twelve starting places sewn up, there are eight or nine players competing for the remaining three places.
Their last chance to earn that starting place is in an A vs B game in Dr. Hyde Park a few days prior to the final, with players encouraged to release the handbrake and play at full pelt.
That they certainly do, with a fist-fight erupting at one stage, and a couple of players trooping off the field with shredded jerseys. We also get an interesting insight into Kevin McStay's outlook. Rather than grab the title of underdogs and use it as fuel for the final, McStay is evidently peeved off at being portrayed as outsiders.
Although a point off for his failure to use the word "scutching".
