Donegal GAA have this evening confirmed that senior football manager Rory Gallagher has stepped down after offering his resignation.
The news is not exactly a shock as Gallagher came under further scrutiny following Donegal's loss to Galway on July 22nd, although the Fermanagh native did have a year remaining on his contract and the option of another upon its expiration.
The Donegal county board were informed of his decision earlier on Monday, before confirming the news via Twitter.

Gallagher will leave his position with immediate effect, something that was called for by numerous Donegal fans on social media after the Galway defeat, which was the first time they had failed to reach the All-Ireland quarter-finals since 2010.
