Kilmacud Crokes manager Robbie Brennan will take over as the new Meath senior football boss for 2025.
His name was put forward at a meeting of the county management committee on Wednesday night and the appointment will be rubber-stamped at the next county board meeting.
Colm O'Rourke left the position at the end of last season leaving Brennan and Lar Wall as the two front-runners for the job.
Both have enjoyed success on the club scene in recent times with Brennan guiding Kilmacud Crokes to the last three county and provincial titles in a row, as well as the All-Ireland in 2022/2023.
Laois native Wall was his opposite number for the 2022 Leinster final, having guided The Downs to Westmeath glory earlier that season, bridging a gap of 18 years.
He was involved with the Roscommon senior team this year as a coach under Davy Burke and proposed a management team for the Meath job that reportedly included Mark McHugh, Paul Garrigan and Cathal Ó Bric.
Garrigan coached Meath's ladies footballers to successive All-Ireland titles while Ó Bric won an All-Ireland with the minors in 2021.
But Brennan, who lives in Dunboyne and won a county senior title with his home club as a player in 2005, will take over instead.
He was a part of Bernard Flynn's ticket for the Meath job after Andy McEntee left the hotseat in 2022, with the pair also having linked up to take over the under-20s for a short lived stint, departing over an issue regarding player availability.
It is now believed Flynn will be part of Brennan's backroom team which also includes Monaghan native Martin Corey and Tyrone's Joe McMahon.
Corey was the Monaghan coach under his brother Vinny in recent years, guiding the county to the 2022 All-Ireland semi-final while McMahon won two All-Irelands for Tyrone as a player and one as a coach in 2021 under Brian Dooher and Fearghal Logan.
Brennan remains the Kilmacud Crokes manager with an County Quarter final this Saturday against Ballyboden St Enda's on top of his agenda.
