Towards the end of the epic All-Ireland football semi-final between Dublin and Kerry today, Peter Crowley was hit by a hard Dublin shoulder and went down. Referee David Gough waved play on, clearly feeling that the challenge was shoulder-to-shoulder. Dublin went up the other end of the field and Diarmuid Connolly swung over the decisive point with his left foot.
Just watched the shoulder on Crowley back. That was no more shoulder to shoulder..

Kerry fans have reacted very negatively to the decision not to give a free. Missiles were allegedly thrown at Gough and his assistants as they left the field.

Bottles and programmes rain down on the ref as he leaves the field. Some Kerry fans spitting from the stands. Horrible end to a great game.

Regrettable scenes to end what was one of the truly great games of the modern era. But it wasn't just Kerry fans who were unhappy with Gough. Kilkenny hurler Richie Power wasn't impressed.
Kerry manager Eamon Fitzmaurice refused to comment on the referee's performance after the game.
