After a successful stint as a selector with Donegal this year, many had assumed that Stephen Rochford would seek out a return to management in the coming months. The former Mayo manager is considered as one of the top footballing minds in the country, and a return to a role as a number one seemed like an inevitability.
He had been strongly linked with the Galway job, with Kevin Walsh having departed last month. With the Connacht side having a young and talented team it certainly seemed like a good fit.
However, it now looks unlikely to happen.
The Irish Examiner are reporting that Rochford is set to remain with Donegal for the upcoming season.
The Ulster side cruised to a provincial crown in 2019 and were billed by many as the main challengers to Dublin. That never came to pass, with Donegal faltering at the Super 8s stage.
Perhaps Rochford wants to give it one more go with the county and they would certainly be amongst the small group of All-Ireland contenders.
Padraig Joyce and John Divilly are now seemingly in the driving seat for the Galway role, with that management team impressing in their role with the county's U20 side.
