We live in a new world. A month ago, Covid-19 was a problem for people halfway around the world and Croke Park was used for Dublin league matches. Yet here we are on March 16. Covid-19 is everyone's problem now and Croke Park is to be used as a testing facility for the virus.
Well done to the Irish Independent and others who this evening revealed that the Croke Park tunnel is to be used as a 'drive-thru' testing area in the near future as Ireland looks to get a better grip of the number of people carrying the disease.
Croke Park residents received the following message from the GAA HQ today:
Following a high-level request from the HSE today and in the national interest, Croke Park is to become a drive-thru facility for testing for Covid-19 for designated appointments.
This will not be a walk-up service. The stadium layout has been identified as being suitable for facilitating this important service at this time. As soon as we have further information, we will share with you.”
The Indo says details are scant at the moment but the testing will happen in the tunnel beneath the stadium. This tunnel is traditionally used by teams arriving for games. Drivers shouldn't need to leave their cars to be tested.
It used to be that only the country's best GAA players entered Croke Park via the tunnel underneath the stadium. But everything has changed now.
