The minor stars of gaelic football and hurling were honoured in Croke Park Saturday at the first ever Electric Ireland GAA Minor Star Awards, after one of the most memorable summers ever for minor GAA.
Kerry's David Clifford picked up the main award in football being named the Minor Star Footballer of the Year, while Cork's Brian Turnbull was named the Minor Star Hurler of the Year.
All 30 players from the Gaelic Football and Hurling Teams of the Year were also honoured at the event in Croke Park.
Kerry legend Jack O’Connor was also given the Minor Star Special Merit Award, presented to him by Mícheál Ó’Muircheartaigh, for his significant contribution to minor football in Kerry. O'Connor was manager when Kerry won the first two of this current four-in-a-row run. He told the gathered crowd that coaching the Kerry minors had rekindled his love for football and remembered discussing a young David Clifford with Paidi Ó Sé.
