Sky Sports News pundit Phil Thompson came on Newstalk's breakfast show this morning to weigh in his thoughts on the All-Ireland hurling final. No, really.
While the hosts may have been hoping to rip into the English man for his lack of knowledge on the Irish national game, they were shocked to find that the broadcaster seemed to actually know what he was talking about.
Well, it's such a difficult one to call. You only have to look at the two meetings in the league to see how little there is between the teams.
That first meeting at Nowlan Park had 10 goals, and of course, in the league final extra time was needed to separate them. Perhaps worryingly for Tipp, it was Kilkenny who came out on top on both occasions.
It is conceivable that Thompson's passing interest in hurling might have allowed him to amass this information. However, things started getting suspicious when he continued his spiel.
And when you look back over the head-to-heads in recent years, you could argue that Kilkenny have a hoodoo over the current bunch of Tipp players. In fact, since Brian Cody took charge, Kilkenny and Tipperary have played each other on seven occasions, with the Premier County only coming on top once.
Again, this is trivia he might have picked up from Sky's coverage of the sport. It's unlikely that he knew this information without doing a little bit of research, but this is expected of radio guests.
Will there be a 10th Celtic Cross for King Henry? Will the Liam be heading back to the spiritual home in Thurles? Can Callanan maintain his form or will JJ and co see that 35th All-Ireland victory for the Cats?
At this point it had become apparent that Phil may have been reading fro a script. Either that or he's become an expert on the sport. The laughs from Ivan Yeats suggest that the Newstalk presenter was also skeptical that these insights belonged to the former Liverpool player.
Thompson finished the interview on a positive note. It seems that hurling has been a hit with the British audience since Sky's landmark broadcasting deal with the GAA brought the sport across the waters.
Hurling is one of the most watched things on television on Sky. Do you know what it's just going above at the moment? An England international match.
