It was seen as inevitable by many, but news has filtered through on Sunday evening that Kerry's Paul Galvin has retired from inter-county football.
This time it will surely be final, after Galvin previously announced his retirement at the end of the 2014 Allianz league campaign, only to dramatically return in March of last year, but following today's defeat for Kerry against Clare in the McGrath Cup at Fitzgerald stadium, we received confirmation of his decision.
Galvin played no part against Clare, but Eamonn Fitzmaurice later revealed the news that means his last appearance for Kerry will have been September's All Ireland final defeat to Dublin.
Paul won’t be back, he is finished up. He got married and is moving back to Dublin. Other than that everyone else will be back.
Fitzmaurice also provided an update on James O'Donoghue and Colm Cooper, both of whom have undergone shoulder surgery:
The longest will be James, the shortest will be Colm, who will return in the next week or two. Colm just needs to get up to speed with regard to contact. We will gauge where everyone is at when we get back training.
If we can advance to the knock-out stages, he is a possibility for that.
