Where is the Czar for rural job creation?
Joe Brolly need wonder no longer. The Czar for rural job creation is on the warpath.
Pat Spillane was out busy commissioning a report which made 34 recommendations designed to fuel job growth in that place which Dublin civil servants secretly hope will just disappear into history, ie. rural Ireland.
The government has put together a measly package of €1 million to fund his recommendations. No self-respecting quango would get out of bed for €1 million.
Apparently the government deems the warfare of horses who find themselves mired in urban areas as an issue of equivalent gravity to that of jobs in rural Ireland. The grand total €1 million has been allocated to help these horses. It's driven Pat round the bend.
The Department of Agriculture also allocated €1m towards the welfare of horses in urban areas, I kid you not.
So far the report has been treated with disdain and its recommendations have been virtually ignored by the Government. It’s time for ministers to stop listening to advisors and civil servants. It is time they listened to the people.
