PRO12 winning coach Pat Lam will attend his first game of hurling today, after the Connacht Rugby coach was invited to help out with the Galway hurlers.
It's an innovative move from the Tribesmen as they seek to end Kilkenny's dominance ahead of their Leinster SHC semi-final. Michael O'Donoghue's side brought Lam in to talk to the players on Friday, after Connacht's captain John Muldoon spoke to them earlier this year.
No doubt Lam's message will be to stick to the processes learned in training, and to play for the pride of the jersey, and the people they are representing.
Galway selector Francis Forde said it was a move to try to inspire the squad ahead of the Black Cats challenge, and the success of the rugby team should inspire the players. Of Connacht's success this season, Forde said:
The way they have bought into it realising where they are coming from, just accepting where they are and having that hunger to improve. That’s the type of culture you want to create in these high performance teams, it’s no different for ourselves.
