Earlier this week, Pat Flanagan departed as manager of the Offaly footballers. Flanagan had been in charge of Offaly for the past three seasons. However, his time in charge was cut short midway through a two-year extension after a meeting of the Offaly County Board on Tuesday.
This season, Offaly exited the Championship in the first round of the qualifiers following a one-point loss to Cavan. They had been eliminated from the Leinster Championship after suffering defeat to Westmeath in a replay.
Speaking to Jackie Cahill in today's Irish Independent, Flanagan revealed that he only discovered that he had been deposed as manager which his wife spotted the new on Twitter.
It was extremely disappointing that my wife found out on social media, and informed me on Tuesday night, of the decision. It's been an honour and privilege to get the opportunity to manage my own county.
Flanagan also detailed a number of other issues he had with the county board. Those include claims that the management team are still due expenses dating back to earlier this year.
