Derry have ended their four month search for a new manager to replace Mickey Harte, but they have selected another Tyrone man in the form of Paddy Tally.

The Galbally native had played for Tyrone and was a part of their backroom team in 2003 when they won their first ever All-Ireland title.

However, Tally isn't as synonymous with Tyrone as his predecessor was, and he's worked with Down, Derry, Galway, and Kerry as either a performance coach, selector, strength and conditioning coach, or manager in the past.

This didn't stop Red Hand legend Owen Mulligan from having a dig at Derry for continuously looking to their neighbours when it comes to picking managers.

The three-time All-Ireland winner took to social media to share his views on the matter.

@DerryGAA why don’t you take the knickers off us ? You’s have taken everything else.

Tongue in cheek of course, but former Derry star Joe Brolly does not see the funny side of the situation at all, and his views are much more scathing.

The Oakleafer was a vocal critic of Harte when he was in charge of the county last year, and he was also very critical of the board for selecting him in the first place.

Taking to social media, the '93 All-Ireland winner posted two tweets about Tally's appointment.

"Applicants invited for post of Derry senior football manager. Applicants must not be from Derry or give one fuck about the county and its people."

"Derry board going through the phone book of Tyrone managers. Shameful lack of loyalty to their own. Shameful lack of integrity."

Despite reactions like these, Derry fans do have a reason to be excited as Tally is widely considered to be one of the best coaches in the game and just needs an opportunity to showcase what he can do in management.

Having worked with some of the biggest counties in the country and alongside the best managers in the game, the University lecturer will brings a wealth of experience to a very talented Derry team, and they could be real contenders next season.
