Oisín McConville was one of the best forward of the modern era, starring for Armagh during a golden age within the county.
Since hanging up his boots, he has become a fixture on our television screens. The 46-year old is a fixture on both RTÉ and the BBC and is certainly one of the most interesting GAA pundits currently on offer.
As well as that, McConville has also been slowly building his CV as a coach.
While some top players jump immediately into inter-county management, the Crossmaglen man has instead cut his teeth at club level. He won two county championships and an Ulster title with his home club, since going on to have spells at Meath's Seneschalstown and Monaghan's Iniskeen Grattans, being at the latter for the last couple of years.
McConville has also been involved with Dundalk IT during this time, but he is now in contention to take his first management role at the top level.
Oisín McConville in frame for inter-county management role
RTÉ are reporting that Oisín McConville is the current favourite to be named as Wicklow manager for 2023, replacing the interim management pair of Alan Costello and Gary Duffy.
The county were relegated from Division 3 this year. They would go on to beat Laois in the Leinster championship before losing to Meath in the next round.
McConville has not previously been involved with an inter-county setup, although we do know that he is open to such a move. He was part of Ray Dempsey's backroom team in his bid for the Mayo job, only for the position to eventually go to Kevin McStay.
It would be interesting to see how he got on in Wicklow, a county that always feels like it is performing well below the level it should be considering the size of the population at their disposal.
They will certainly be targeting promotion in the league next year, while the Tailteann Cup also offers the opportunity for lesser counties to have a deep run in the championship.
This is one to keep an eye on.
