Donegal's 2019 Championship hopes have been dealt a blow after Odhrán Mac Niallais confirmed he will not play inter-county this year.
The Gaoth Dobhair star will not play with Declan Bonner's side this season. Donegal play Fermanagh in the Ulster Quarter-final in May.
In an interview with Donegal Democrat, Mac Niallais confirmed he had told management of his decision.
I'm not going back. I spoke to Declan last week. I told him I'm not going to play this year. I just have no real interest in football at the minute, to be honest. The last few weeks, even training with the club, I haven't really enjoyed it.
Mac Niallais had been a close friend of Mícheál Roarty, who passed away after a single-vehicle incident earlier this year. The accident plunged the community into a state of mourning as it claimed the lives of four local men.
The midfielder has been a prominent member of the Donegal side ever since 2014.
