Kerry looked to be on their way to glory when Paul Murphy's goal put them five clear in the second half of the All-Ireland semi-final.

David Clifford's mis-hit attempt at a point was kept alive by Diarmuid O'Connor and then finished by Murphy. It was a tad fortunate and gave Armagh a mountain to climb.

But Armagh kept fighting, kept believing and were rewarded with a goal of their own eight minutes later.

It came from a similar situation.

It's often said that the mis-hit point is the most dangerous ball in Gaelic football and that held true as Rian O'Neill's skied effort caused consternation in the Kerry rearguard.

Kerry goalkeeper Shane Ryan spilled the ball and former handballer Barry McCambridge capitalised, punching low and hard into the corner of the net.

"We said Armagh needed a spark. They needed something and in fairness, the goals level each other out because they were both bad shots for point really," said the former Dublin player.

"But there was a sense in the build-up to that goal that Armagh were getting bodies in there," added Whelan.

"They were getting the midfielders in, they were lining up for some sort of long ball, and you felt they were going to test that area, like they did that time here against Galway (in 2022) too."

Peter Canavan praised Armagh sub Jason Duffy for his interception of Ryan's kick-out, but the Tyrone man was surprised Ryan fumbled the ball.

"It was a brilliant interception by Duffy. But why did Shane Ryan, one of the best goalies in the country, fumble it," asked Canavan.

Tomás Ó Sé was critical of the Kerry goalkeeper, questioning why he didn't go to catch the ball over his head.

"That goal Shane Ryan gifted Armagh was the key point of the whole second half.

"Why didn't he catch it over his head? Nobody near him," said Ó Sé.

"Why did he wait for it to come down to his chest?
