There has been turmoil in Tipperary over the past fortnight - some of it real, some of it not so - following their unexpected defeat to Cork in the Munster Hurling Championship quarter-final.
During the week, All-Star corner-back Cathal Barrett was dropped from the panel for disciplinary reasons. That was followed by unfounded rumours of a falling out between senior players on the panel.
On Friday, two-time Offaly All-Ireland winner Michael Duignan said the rumours which had been spread about the players via social media were 'disgusting'. He also implored those sharing WhatsApp messages spreading rumours to stop doing so.
According to Nick English, who was speaking to Ivan Yates on Newstalk on Sunday, rumours like the ones heard this week are a typical reaction to a defeat in Tipperary.
It’s very typical of Tipperary when they lose when they’re expected to win games that there’s a whole slew of rumours comes out as people looking for what the excuse for the defeat was.
There was no excuse. They were beaten on the day by a better team. There’s been a disciplinary issue with Cathal Barrett. He’s been dropped as I understand but any of the rest of the rumours they’re totally untrue from what I hear.
The two-time All-Ireland winner with Tipperary added that there had been no 'punch up' involving Premier County players.
This is typical in Tipperary that’s there’s rumours after games when they lose, and you know it’s very tough on the people who are central to those rumours and their families, and you know there’s been a huge amount of rubbish all the week on social media.
There’s certainly no punch up, and I mean that’s the basis for all the allegations and rumours, horrible rumours about the players and their families on social media all the week. Really it’s sad to be honest.
