Donegal went into half time against Fermanagh with a 1-6 to 0-7 lead.

Had Sean Quigley managed to stick a late penalty past Mark Anthony McGinley - who was making his Champioship debut - it would have been Fermanagh with the half time lead.

The concession of the penalty by Donegal full back Neill McGee was completely unnecessary. It was also a moment which Maurice Deegan - after taking a few moments to consider - deemed was deserving of a straight red card.

During the half time analysis Pat Spillane called McGee's actions 'a cowardly act'.

After a high ball was launched towards to Donegal goal, it was claimed well by Sean Quigley. However, the Fermanagh full foward was quickly swallowed up by Donegal defenders.

What happened next really was an inexplicable action by Neil McGee. Completely unnecessarily, he hit Fermanagh corner forward Tomas Corrigan with his forearm as he attempted to break out of defence.

The strike left Corrigan on the ground.

Consensus regarding McGee's actions was unanimous.

This is what Pat Spillane had to say at half time on The Sunday Game Live.

This has no part in gaelic football. This was a cowardly act. It deserved a red card. Bear in mind, Neil McGee got a retrospective one-match suspension after trying to rearrange Alan Fitzgerald's finger in the National League. This guy is facing two months.
