Former Laois footballer MJ Tierney released his debut single Salt on the Rim on Tuesday.
Tierney told Laois Live that "This is a very special track for me, one that I’m hugely proud of. Salt on the Rim is a song that I wrote after losing one of my best friends. It’s a personal heartfelt exploration of grief and the power of embracing your emotions."
In his biography on Spotify, Tierney explains that he draws inspiration from Luke Kelly and that his music also has "echoes" of Glen Hansard, Mundy and Dermot Kennedy.
He adds that he has "navigated a musical journey defined by exploration and transformation. The quiet moments spent in Laois formed the foundation, while lockdown provided the catalyst to dive into the world of songwriting and recording, giving birth to his unique sound".
He also says that his "alternative folk style is a seamless blend of raw emotions and poetic storytelling. The haunting melodies, combined with intricate acoustic arrangements, invite listeners on a journey through his experiences, struggles, and triumphs".
Unreal to see a friend drive forward with his passion. Well done @MJTierneymusic , powerful song.
