She fended off competition from Cork's Katrina Mackey and Waterford's Lorraine Bray to claim the award. Speaking to Balls.ie after winning the player of the year award, Miriam Walsh claimed she wouldn't be here without her teammates.

In a year that saw her team go through several emotional moments to become champions, she credited their team spirit as a big reason for their success.

"I know it's an individual award but I wouldn't have accepted this award if it wasn't for my teammates, and my management and my family. I really collected it on behalf of them. I'm absolutely thrilled.

It was an absolutely incredible journey. At the start of the year I wouldn't have thought we would've even got to Croke Park, let alone win an All-Ireland. We had our ups and downs throughout the year.

Tommy losing his brother Paul, Brian losing his Uncle Dom, and the girls losing Grandparents, we had a tough year. We were there for one another and we got through all the downs and we came out the right side.

On the first night that PwC have sponsored the Camogie All Star awards, Miriam Walsh has praised the GPA for the work they have done to improve equality in women's sported.

The Kilkenny star also claimed the award rounded off a perfect year for her.

"The GPA this year is just doing tremendous work this year highlighting our profiles. I know on their social media these days you mostly see Camogie players on it, and this is their first year ever.

Fair play to them, the Camogie association and the GPA for highlighting women's sport.

I actually got married this week, it's been so busy I'm delighted. This topped off the year so I'm delighted."
