As the saying goes, you can never keep a good man retired (or something like that) and it looks like it could be the case once more. Eight time All Ireland winning manager Mick O'Dwyer is set to come out of retirement to take up an 'advisory' role with the Louth footballers.
According to the Irish Independent, the 78 year old is keen to get back into football and has accepted an offer from Louth to assist manager Colin Kelly after a shaky couple of years for the Wee County.
O'Dwyer has been absent from the inter-county scene since stepping down as Clare manager in 2013 but it looks like he'll be back in a limited capacity at least after Kelly confirmed that he had already been involved with the Louth set-up.
He's been about the place. It's nothing formal. I would have had Micko addressing club teams I was involved with in the past. He has great enthusiasm.
With Louth having faltered significantly since reaching the Leinster final in 2010, fans will be hoping that O'Dwyer can have a positive effect on a squad that has suffered consecutive league relegations in the past two years.
