Retired Laois footballer and Emo clubman Mick Lawlor was reeling in the years at the weekend when the 42 year-old crashed home two goals in as many minutes to bring the Laois county final to a draw.

Lawlor was a vital cog in the Laois side that claimed the Leinster title in 2003 and was man of the match in the drawn semi-final against Offaly.

The scoring talisman rediscovered that form on Sunday when he netted a goal inside the first three minutes of the second half. A looping ball found Lawlor isolated close to the Portlaoise goals and the 42 year-old made no mistake with the finish.

The opposition countered with a point from the kickout, but within seconds Emo launched another attack. The ball was sent sailing in on top of the danger area and again, an unmarked Lawlor collected the pass and bagged his second goal.
