Former Tipperary camogie player Megan Ryan has become the 22nd Irish player to sign with an AFLW club this season.
Ryan has joined Essendon's inaugural AFLW squad as a replacement for the injured Jorja Borg. She will be part of a side which also features Fermanagh's Joanne Doonan.
The Roscrea native moved to Australia in 2019. Her Aussie rules journey began with Broken Hill before moving to North Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFLW) for the 2022 season. She kicked a goal as North Adelaide won the Grand Final.

"Whilst it’s disappointing for Jorja to miss the season, this is another great opportunity for a player to represent this football club in our inaugural year,” said Essendon AFLW Contract Manager Georgia Harvey.
"Meg is a strong and competitive player who recently played in a premiership with North Adelaide in the SANFLW and we look forward to welcoming her to the club."
The seventh season of the AFLW gets underway this Thursday with Essendon playing their first game against Hawthorn on Saturday.
