Meath footballer Vikki Wall is reportedly set to join the Irish women's rugby sevens squad. Earlier this year, the team qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Irish Independent reports that a deal between Wall and the IRFU is close to being sealed. It's said that IRFU will look to expedite Wall's development for the revamped and rebranded SVNS tournament series which starts in December.
On Saturday evening, the two-time All-Ireland winner with Meath was part of the team which exited at the quarter-final stage following defeat to Kerry in Tralee. It was expected that she would return to Australia to continue her Women's AFL career with North Melbourne. Wall signed a two-year deal with the club ahead of last season and the new campaign gets underway in September.
However, according to the Women's AFL website, Wall has "told the Kangaroos of her intent to stay home where she will target an Olympic berth competing in rugby sevens in 2024."
It's added North Melbourne hold some hope that the 2021 Footballer of the Year could return in some capacity this season but have "privately conceded that any hopes of her comeback are unlikely."
North Melbourne do expect that Wall will return for the 2024 season, which will get underway after the Olympic Games in Paris.
