Meath GAA have apologised to their Down counterparts for a tweet posted to its official Twitter account on Sunday calling the Ballycran grounds "a kip".
In response to a tweet by Offaly GAA on Sunday following their three-point Allianz Hurling League Division 2A victory over Down at McKenna Park in Ballycran, the Meath account posted: "It's a Kip, no inter county matches should be played in that place. Hasn't changed in 30 years. How many sliotars were lost today???"
The tweet has since been deleted.
Meath GAA issued a statement on Sunday night saying they have launched an investigation and also been in contact with the Down county board.
Meath GAA statement
"Coiste na Mí C.L.G. are aware of an offensive tweet coming from our Twitter account this afternoon," read the statement.
"This tweet in no way reflects the views of Coiste na Mí C.L.G.
"A full investigation of how the tweet was posted commenced in the aftermath of the tweet and is currently underway.
"We have been in contact with the Down County Board apologising for the tweet which was deleted as soon as we became aware of it."
Down hurling manager Ronan Sheehan also weighed in on the tweet, saying: "Hard to believe @MeathGAA would make a comment like that about fellow Gaels...maybe if they knew some of their history about the clubhouse in Ballycran it would suit them better....we had to play Meath last year in Trim on a heavy pitch AFTER a club football game..kettle and pot!"
