RTE have today announced a new GAA championship talk show launching this Sunday on RTE Radio 1, with the one and only Marty Morrissey set to host.
Morrissey will be joined by former Rosscommon goalkeeper and 2013 Balls.ie Man Of The Year, Shane Curran, aswell as former Kilkenny all-Ireland winner David Herity and Cork camogie star Anna Geary, but this group of people now fall under the name of the show, which has for some reason been called...
The Marty Squad.
That's seriously the name. Initially we weren't fully aware if this was to a be a Sunday GAA talk show, or a Saturday morning cartoon involving Marty Morrissey and a group of vigilantes fighting crime in Dublin, but we love the name, we're just not sure why.
Understandably, Marty is delighted and he expressed his satisfaction with this "squad" ahead of the show's launch:
To win an All-Ireland takes a great squad of players… and it’s the same for radio! I am delighted to be part of this new squad and to work for the first time with Paddy Mc Kenna and to renew acquaintances with Brenda Donohue. But it’s not about us, it’s about you, your feelings, your joy and your heartbreak as we travel together to Croke Park for the All-Ireland Finals.
So there you have it, be sure to tune in this Sunday for The Marty Squad's Radio 1 debut.
