While previewing the Ulster Championship game between Cavan and Monaghan last week, RTE analyst Joe Brolly made a rather regrettable comment about his colleague Marty Morrissey, referring to the popular presenter as "ugly", and he was quickly and rightfully blasted for his error in judgement.
Brolly apologised, and claimed he was incredibly embarrassed by his own actions, but now Marty Morrissey has given his view on the incident, and expressed his disappointment with a man who he has worked with for years while speaking to Sean O’Rourke on Radio One earlier today:
I’ve known Joe for a long time obviously and worked with him on the Sunday Game and other programmes. I was disappointed. Joe has apologised, which I have accepted. RTE sport and my own boss Ryle Nugent has dealt with it appropriately. Obviously we are moving on.
When asked how he feels when others, such as Mario Rosenstock, mimic his mannerisms for their sketches, Morrissey explained how the two situations are very different:
Oliver Callan and Mario Rosenstock are two gifted entertainers who I greatly admire. What they were doing was mimicking me, and I was genuinely surprised when they started it. They do it within certain parameters, and I enjoy the fun. There is a line you do not cross, and Oliver Callan and Mario didn’t cross it - [the Brolly comment] crossed the line and disappointed me.
You weren't the only one Marty, even Jim McGuiness voiced his displeasure at The Sunday Game for letting it happen.
Hopefully we can all move on now.
