Yesterday we featured a superb match report from the Dunshaughlin GAA Club and now another GAA club from Meath, Blackhall Gaels, have put forward their effort for the greatest GAA match report ever.
The report is for a U12 game between Blackhall and Moynalty and according to our tipster, features at least 12 references to U2.
We've got nine so far.

It was a beautiful day in Moynalty as the Blackhall Gaels u-12 got on their boots for this critical Summer League encounter. A strong Gaels line-up, captained this week by Tony O’Connor, took an early lead through Conor Duffy after just 10 seconds, and when his midfield partner Alexander Hayden added another to leave the Gaels two up with less than a minute on the clock, thoughts turned to a Germany-Brazil type result. Moynalty got one back, but further points by Hayden and Duffy (2) left the Gaels 5-1 up after 10 minutes. However the Gaels failed to score for the rest of the first half and Moynalty pegged them back to be just a point behind at half time, 5-4, leaving the mentors slightly numb with shock.
Roused by a stirring half-time team talk, the Gaels emerged for the second half with renewed purpose, and quickly reestablished their dominance with another immediate score from Duffy.
3 points between the 30th and 35th minute from Micheal mcivor, Peter Coakley and Hayden again stretched the lead to 4.
The Gaels superior fitness started to tell, and further scores from Peter Coakley, James Ruddy and another from McIvor were followed by a scoring burst from Duffy who tapped over an incredible 3 points in the last 10 minutes including a beautiful score from the ’40.
Blackhall Gaels left the picturesque village, where the streets have no name, the victors by 14 to 7. Colin Byrne repelled attack after attack in a roving goalkeeper role, Eoghan O’Toole was alert to every danger as full back. Tony O’Connor picked up a lot of ball in the half back line and tackled tenaciously, surging forward in the second half as his opponents tired. Killian Mangan buzzed around his opponents like a fly and played on despite getting a nasty knock in the first half, and Conor Daly, making only his second start in the famous jersey, looked a veteran of many a battle.
In the forwards, Paul Codd worked tirelessly and chased back continuously to deny his opponent time and space, saving at least 3 scores in the process; as did Ross Thornton, moved into the half forward line who picked up a lot of possession and used his strength well. Second half substitute Amy Byrne was superb in defence. Podge ‘Ronaldo’ Clarke came close several times only to be denied by the superb Moynalty goalie.
A sort of homecoming for one of the Blackhall mentors returning to his native parish, became a source of pride, for after the war was over, the Blackhall boys made the long trek home victorious. If the Gaels show the same pride in the jersey as they did tonight they will surely walk on to an even higher elevation next year. Victory was the sweetest thing, but the tackling and tenacity was even more pleasing. A magnificent team performance but the midfield dynamos of Hayden and Duffy must come in for special mention having accounted for 10 of the Gaels scores.
