A native of Fermanagh, O'Rourke has lived in Tyrone for a number of years, with his adopted club Errigal Ciaran putting his name forward for the job last week.
O'Rourke remains the Watty Graham's Glen manager, having taken them to All-Ireland glory last year where they defeated St Brigid's of Roscommon in the final.
Speaking on Off The Ball this morning, Tyrone goalkeeper gave O'Rourke his backing for the job.
"The name on everybody's lips is Malachy O'Rourke. I'm absolutely keen on Malachy O'Rourke managing us, I've been a strong admirer of him for a long time now," he said.
Speaking to Balls last week, former Tyrone footballer Kyle Coney explained why he would be the perfect candidate for the job.
"With Malachy O'Rourke living in Ballygawley for a number of years now, his name is going to be top of the list," said Coney.
"Having the senior inter-county experience that he has with Monaghan, the great job he's done with Glen, yeah Malachy's name would be top of the list.
"It would bring huge excitement back again."
