The collapse of a gypsum mine in Monaghan has had a devastating effect on a local GAA club. Magheracloone Mitchells GAA club was left counting the extent of the damage after a sinkhole emerged on its GAA grounds with chairman Francis Jones revealing the full scale of the problems the club now faces.
Speaking to Morning Ireland, Jones detailed the damage, saying "There's a crack straight across one of the juvenile pitches. It's subsided, as well as part of our main pitch and viewing area, which has also subsided and, in turn, caused damage to our clubhouse."
In the wake of the incident Magheracloone have set up a GoFundMe page, here is the the link to the club's GoFundMe page, with the blurb on the site explaining what the funds will go towards:
Due to the recent devastating mine collapse which has destroyed the Magheracloone GAA pitches and clubhouses we are looking to raise funds to ensure our Club survives this disaster. We all know that any football club is the backbone of the community and the foundation for many friendships. Funds will be required to source and setup temporary facilities. Please give a little or a lot. It takes a community to raise children.
One budding GAA player has already written to the Monaghan club, offering to help by organising a charity match:
