Loughrea full forward Johnny Maher really lost his head during the Galway Hurling Final against St. Thomas. With just 3 minutes left in the game Loughrea were awarded a penalty. Maher got to his feet and gave St.Thomas corner back Cathal Burke a dig to the groin with the hurl before striking another St. Thomas player across the thigh.

The referee then consults his umpires before dishing out no punishment to Maher who then slots the penalty to the back of the net.

It doesn't stop there though. In the aftermath of the penalty, Maher shoulders one St. Thomas player before tripping up another on their way up the field. Again he received no card for this.

The striking of two players after the awarding for the penalty definitely warranted a red card. It's inexplicable how the referee could have thought otherwise.
