Paddy McKenna was at the Aviva on Tuesday evening where he met the Kilkenny hurlers at half time. They were there with the Liam McCarthy Cup and Paddy tweeted the above picture of the inconspicuous bag in which it is transported.
It does have the appearance of some sort of freezer bag, giving the impression that the cup needs to be kept and a low temperature at all times. While there's no doubt that the cup is well taken care of, the Liam McCarthy Cup is surely deserving of the type of reverence afforded to he Stanley Cup which has a dedicated team of minders following it wherever it may go. If there's a Russian player on an NHL title winning team then he gets to take the cup to Russia and the keepers of the cup follow.
Kilkenny have been All-Ireland winners so many times now surely it would be worth investing in full time employees to look after the cup and purchase a bag befitting one of Ireland's most famous sporting cups.
