Liam Cahill was in fine form for his post-match interview with the press, taking issue with one suggestion about his future after his side put in a spirited 1-24 to 0-24 loss to Clare.
Despite the knowledge of their elimination, Cahill’s side entered the game with a renewed spirit, having learned from their heavy defeats against Cork and Limerick, and a draw against his old side Waterford.
The Premier boss objected to a question post-match asking whether he was the right man to lead the county forward.
“I don’t know, what do you think?” he shot back.
When pressed on the matter, he replied: “I’m appointed for a three-year term – I’ve no doubt about that.
“I take umbrage to that question, actually. I’ve a three-year term with possibly a one-year extension.
“I have the full support of the county board, 100% behind me, and what’s paramount to my management team and me is I have 100% support of the players next door. So that’s not even a question.”
It hasn’t been a bad week for Tipperary underage, with the minors and under-20s both winning Munster finals against Clare and Cork, so the future is definitely bright in the county.
However, the problem for Cahill is it will take a few years for those players to develop into fully-fledged senior inter-county hurling players.
It could be potential future managers such as Darragh Egan or Brendan Cummins who end the drought in the Premier County.
Is this finally the decade that Tipp fail to win an All-Ireland title for the first time in their history? We will have to wait and see.
