Homecomings are great in theory but mostly these gatherings attract children and drunks. Manys a summer evening did i spend at the busy end of my country lane waving the green and gold flag ushering the likes of Colm O'Rourke, Brian Stafford and PJ Gillic back into the Royal County but only once did I see the likes of this.

The lesson here is either to ask for help up or to just go home.

As a teenager I waited patiently outside the Meath Team's victory bus and waited I did, until ever last soul had signed their way past me, that was until one Meath stawlwart woke up from the back of the bus and took a dangerously direct route off it from the top step, right onto his noggin.

He seemed sleepy and happy at the same time, absolutely oblivious to the tarmac in his hair and what more there was no leather jacket on him, but then again Meathmen are built of sterner stuff.

I'll leave it up to you to guess who he was, suffice to say he was no Sean Boylan
